Here at Adventure Safe, we believe that the best outdoor experiences are built on a solid foundation of safety. That’s why we were absolutely thrilled to welcome a brilliant team from The Bushcraft Company on the 8th and 9th of this month for our comprehensive 16-Hour Outdoor First Aid course.
When your daily office is the great outdoors, standard first aid just doesn’t cut it. You need to know how to manage a scene, treat casualties, and keep people safe when professional medical help is more than a quick ambulance ride away.
Here is a look back at a cracking couple of days of learning, practical scenarios, and teamwork!
Why the 16-Hour Outdoor First Aid Course?
For professionals working in remote environments, the 16-hour (two-day) course is the gold standard. It is specifically designed to go beyond the basics of an indoor first aid course, focusing heavily on the realities of being out in the elements.
During their time with us, The Bushcraft Company team got stuck into a variety of vital topics, including:
- Incident Management in the Wild: How to assess a situation and keep the whole group safe while managing a casualty.
- Environmental Factors: Dealing with the great British weather, from treating hypothermia and cold shock to managing heat exhaustion.
- Improvised Treatments: Learning how to effectively use the kit you actually carry in your rucksack when you don’t have a fully stocked medical room to hand.
- Extended Casualty Care: Monitoring and keeping a casualty comfortable whilst waiting for mountain rescue or an ambulance to arrive.
A Brilliant Effort from The Bushcraft Company
We run these courses regularly, and we have to say, the energy this group brought was second to none. The Bushcraft Company team are already experts in outdoor living, and their existing wilderness knowledge shone through during our practical scenarios.
They approached every mock-incident with enthusiasm, excellent communication, and a genuine passion for outdoor education and safety. Whether they were role-playing a tricky evacuation or practicing CPR on the training manikins, they got fully involved and proved exactly why they are trusted to lead groups into the wild.
