Who is this course for?

This course is perfect for:

  • Outdoor Activity Instructors
  • Teachers and Leaders operating in locations with nearby access to further support
  • Examples: activity instructors, sports coaches, primary/secondary teachers, rural visit leaders, and more.

No prior Outdoor First Aid experience is required to enroll.

Course Content

Our comprehensive training covers essential first aid topics tailored for outdoor scenarios:

  1. Roles and Responsibilities of First Aiders
  2. Incident Management and ABC Primary Survey
  3. Summoning Appropriate Help/Rescue Services
  4. Treatment for:
    • Unconscious Casualties
    • Non-Breathing Casualties
    • Bleeding/Shock
  5. Use of AED (Automated External Defibrillator)
  6. Recognition and Management of:
    • Life-Threatening Illnesses
    • Drowning/Hypothermia
  7. Insulation and Shelter for Casualties
  8. Age Awareness for Vital Signs, CPR, and Bleeding
  9. Ongoing Monitoring and Casualty Care While Awaiting Help

Additional topics may be included at the discretion of the training provider to address participants’ needs.

  • Mountain Training UK and Ireland Instructors, Coaches and Guides holding the following awards: CWI, CWDI
  • British Cycling Mountain Bike Leader Level 1 where appropriate to the pre-defined route. British Cycling Coaching Awards at Level 1, Level 2 and Level 3 including Discipline Specific Units
  • British Orienteering Coaches when appropriate to the areas and environments they are working in
  • Royal Yachting Association Dinghy Instructors, Windsurfing Instructors, Personal Watercraft instructors, Inland Waterways instructors, Powerboat Instructors
